Omnicomm India at Telematics India 2017: Talking Business
Telematics India is an annual 2-day trade show; in 2017, it took place at The Westin Pune Koregaon Park in Pune, India. It showcases products and services from industries such as logistics and supply chains; transport, connected and autonomous vehicles; driver behavior management and fuel monitoring; commercial fleets and vehicle tracking; etc.
Omnicomm’s stall enjoyed a steady flow of companies expressing solid interest in fuel management solutions based on its renowned fuel sensors. Most of them currently employ basic fleet management services using standard GPS trackers. They got to review the consistent accuracy of Omnicomm fuel sensor data as displayed by the demo put together by company’s technical specialist Mr. Vamsi Krishna Varanasi.
Existing Omnicomm partners, such as Mr. Deepak Singh Gehot, CEO of Tracking Gene and Arya Omnitalk, dropped by to leverage the current relations. Many expressed interest in strengthening partnerships through consistent supply and delivery of Omnicomm sensors.
Indian Oil, another major exhibitor and India’s largest fuel distributor, came forward with an expressed interest in Omnicomm’s solutions. No less than five key delegates from Government Transporter visited the stall. Mr S.L. Budihal, regional manager for BEML, was so impressed with the demo as to propose using Omnicomm fuel sensors for monitoring fuel for their end customers who operate mobile cellphone towers.
Many automotive manufacturing representatives also came by, including telematics product managers from Toyota, Harayana Roadways, BMTC, Volvo, Mahindra, and John Deere. Mr. Pravat Behera Kumar of John Deere was fascinated by the consistent fuel readings the system demonstrated even after giving the fuel tank a good shake and tilt. Bangalore’s BMTC had faced fuel theft issues at its telecom towers in the past, and they found Omnicomm’s technology an appealing solution to keep similar issues in check.
Omnicomm India is currently following up on the leads, aiming to create an efficient pipeline of prospective customers and partners.
Mr. Mohit Mehrotra, managing director of Omnicomm India, took part in the panel discussion on “Telematics Solutions: Moving Up the Value Chain”. Subjects discussed included telematics integration and customized application; safety and security; fuel monitoring and optimizing operational costs. Mr. Mehrota enjoyed company of a number of representatives from diverse businesses, from DHL and UBER to Bertling Logistics and Nigeria’s Best School of Monitoring.
“Moving up the telematics value chain means comprehending the customer's business problem and aligning our telematics solution architecture to solve that customer's business challenge in a meaningful and efficient way," Mr. Mohit Mehrotra stated. He went on to cite an example of a customer that had been in business transporting very large and over-dimensioned cargo (80-100 tons) by multi axle trailers. “We identified the key challenge to begin with: keeping tab on mileage and fuel consumption across a widely diverse range of payload and route options. In the end, the customer discovered an 18% overconsumption by his logistics fleet, turning the findings into solid cost savings.”
